Aid To Israel Rape Of American Taxpayer

In 2007 the United States signed an agreement with Israel to provide $30 billion dollars of military aid to be spread out over ten years starting in 2008. That comes on top of the previous ten-year aid package of $24 billion. Which came on top of the billions before that... and the billions before that... and the billions before that... etc... Which almost certainly will precede the billions after that... and the billions after that... and the billions after that, etc...

Has anyone ever wondered what's with all the largess? Maybe I'm missing something but why is the United States government such a lapdog for the state of Israel? I mean, what has Israel ever done for us to warrant all this graciousness?

You typically hear Israel described as the United States' strongest friend and ally in the Middle East. And it's the policy of the U.S. government to insure that Israel has enough military strength to defeat any combination of foes it's likely to face in the Middle East. Yet all I see is a strange relationship that raises serious concerns about how billions, perhaps hundreds of billions, of our tax dollars are being spent.

You won't find any Israeli troops fighting alongside ours in Iraq or Afghanistan. And if you went back and checked the record, you'd see that there wasn't any fighting alongside ours in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 in Kuwait either. You see, whenever our troops conduct military operations in that part of the world we need logistical support from the Arab and/or Islamic countries in the region like Saudi Arabia. Those countries typically stipulate that we can't have their support if Israel is involved in the operations. Hence, Israel is always left out of the equation. Well, what good is a friend or ally if you can never call on them for support?

To make matters worse, our relationship with Israel carries with it some rather extreme negative ramifications for the United States, the main one of which being the worldwide scorn and condemnation that we have to endure. How many people do you suppose there are around the world who literally hate the United States because of our cozy relationship with Israel? How many of you still remember the disastrous oil embargo of the 1970's that was directed at this country as a result of our government's pathetically intellegence-lacking commitment to Israel.

It sure is an awful lot to endure in order to maintain a relationship that from my vantage point doesn't involve anything positive for the United States but a whole lot of negative. Would someone please explain to me why in the hell the U.S. Congress is so fascinated with a little spit of land roughly the size of New Jersey - no offense to New Jersey - that it wouldn't have any qualms about subjecting the United States to a wide range of serious consequences while falling all over itself to play lapdog (insert your best tail-wagging, tongue-dangling, panting impression here)?

I've heard some people try to characterize the alliance between the United States and Israel as being one of strategic importance. Oh? It's hard to see how. We could never station any troops there. We could never launch any military operations from there. And Israel doesn't even have any significant oil or natural gas deposits. So what's strategic?

If we just took the money and threw it out the window it wouldn't be any less wasted then what it is now. And at least that wouldn't result in all the negative ramifications that what we're currently doing with that money does.

I don't know about you but my logic dictates that it's never a good thing to always be shelling out money on something that doesn't ever bring anything in return to show for it. The question is how much longer is the American taxpayer going to be required to tolerate such an unwise use of his or her hard-earned tax dollars? Well, we know it will be at least ten more years, the duration of the new aid giveaway. The time has long since come to put a stop to it. As an American citizen I don't feel any obligation to provide security for the state of Israel. As a taxpayer I don't want another penny of my tax dollars being wasted on it. I call on all taxpayers to unite and send a message to the government that we want it stopped.

If the U.S. Congress had had any leadership capabilities, as far back as the early 1970's it would've grabbed Israel by the throat, slammed it up against the wall and laid out in no uncertain terms that if it didn't pull back to the pre-1967 borders, the United States would immediately cut off all aid. Instead it chose to keep recklessly giving Israel the billions of your tax dollars that it needed to maintain a military force that enabled it to dominate the Palestinians and remove any incentive that it would have to withdraw from occupied territories and negotiate a lasting peace.
